Spike 

Born and raised in the heart of Dartmoor, Spike began his career in forestry working within the local woodlands surrounding the National Park before going on to build a successful mobile sawmilling business based in Widecombe.

A former GB Team Captain and multiple-time British Stihl Timber Sports Champion, Spike competed in 10 World Championships, winning gold, silver and bronze medals internationally whilst breaking numerous British records throughout his career.
Today, Spike continues to work globally as a trainer, coach and Global Sports Director for Stihl Timber Sports, while returning home to Dartmoor to launch the Devon Axe Club and his own wood chopping academy, helping introduce the next generation to the sport and traditions of timber sports in the South West.

Spike is also a keen cider maker and has won a number of awards. He is very happy to share his passion with you! His childhood of growing up on the moors and his adventures travelling and competing around the world have provided him with many great experiences and colourful stories to be told around the fire.

Sophie

Sophie brings a warm and welcoming approach to every Axe & Relax experience, combining years of healthcare experience with a strong passion for wellness, relaxation and hospitality.

Alongside her background working as a nurse, Sophie is a qualified massage and wellness practitioner, offering a range of treatments designed to help guests unwind, recharge and reconnect within the peaceful surroundings of Dartmoor.

Now based in the South West, Sophie shares a deep appreciation for the outdoors, slower living and the restorative atmosphere of the moors. She also supports the timber sports community, also competing in the double sawing and regularly attending country shows and events alongside the Devon Axe Team and the Axe & Relax team.
